A separate head-lice comb and a shampoo pack containing a comb are different purchases. One provides a tool for careful combing; the other also includes a specific head-lice product. Choose an appropriate approach first, then compare the cost. A school message alone is not a reason to order several bottles. Ask a pharmacist for help if you are unsure what your family needs.
Check the need before choosing a product
The start of the school year is a practical time to check the bathroom cupboard. This guide does not report a new Belgian outbreak. It is for families preparing to check hair or deciding what to buy after a school notification.
The official Flemish government portal, Vlaanderen.be, highlights finding live lice when confirming an infestation. It identifies wet combing or head-lice products as possible approaches when lice are found. Inform the school when a child is affected. For practical instructions, consult your school’s health service or a pharmacist; in Dutch-speaking schools, the CLB can support school advice.
Nits are lice eggs attached to hairs. A fine-toothed lice comb serves a different purpose from an ordinary detangling brush. That distinction is more useful when shopping than simply looking for the word “shampoo” on a pack.
Three available options, with dated prices
The prices below were checked on PharmaCompare’s public product pages on 4 September 2026. Those pages show a price-check date of 2 September. Each product currently has one listed seller. This is therefore a comparison of different products and pack formats, rather than evidence of the cheapest retailer for the same item. Delivery charges are excluded, and prices and availability can change.
Prioderm: a separate lice and nit comb
The Prioderm Lice and Nit Comb, one piece, is listed at €8.00 from De Online Drogist, in stock. This purchase contains a comb, without a bottle of head-lice product. It is worth considering if you already have a suitable product or, following advice, choose an approach centred on careful combing.
Check the handle design and cleaning instructions before ordering. The purchase price of a tool does not tell you how much time correct use will take. A more expensive comb does not remove the need to use it carefully either. If you are buying a complete pack, first check whether it already contains a suitable comb.
Silikom Once: 200 ml shampoo with a comb
Silikom Once Shampoo without insecticides, 200 ml plus comb, is listed at €15.75 from Pazzox, in stock. This pack combines a head-lice product with a comb. Based on the pack price, the equivalent cost is approximately €7.88 per 100 ml.
The larger volume may matter if you need a substantial amount, but bottle size does not establish a guaranteed number of applications. Hair length, thickness and the instructions for distributing enough product all matter. Do not calculate a supposed cost per treatment using an invented application count. Check the leaflet and suitability for the intended user before buying.
Elimax: the 100 ml shampoo-and-comb pack
Elimax 2-in-1 Shampoo without insecticide, 100 ml plus comb, is listed at €17.96 from Pazzox, also in stock. At this size, the equivalent price per 100 ml is €17.96. The selected pack includes a comb, so check that you are not adding a duplicate accessory unnecessarily.
In this snapshot, the Silikom pack costs €2.21 less and contains more liquid. That does not establish equivalent formulations, application requirements or suitability. Price arithmetic is not an effectiveness test. Pharmacist advice and the leaflet may point you towards a different choice, even where another bottle looks cheaper.
Compare the purchase you actually need
Write down whether you need a fine-toothed comb, a specific head-lice product, or both. Then identify the exact variant and size. A spray, shampoo and product marketed for preventive use are not automatically interchangeable, even within the same brand. “2-in-1” and “Once” are product names, not a personal guarantee of an outcome.
For a separate comb, compare the price per piece alongside practical features. For liquids, a price per 100 ml helps explain pack sizes, but should be read together with the instructions. Where a pack includes an accessory, the total also covers that accessory. It should not be treated as though every euro buys only liquid.
Finally, compare the complete basket. Delivery charges, the stated delivery time and any collection option can outweigh a small difference in product price. We have not established that combining all purchases at one seller will save money. If you need to act promptly, advice and availability at a local pharmacy may matter more than online delivery.
For an English-speaking household in Belgium, also check the language of the instructions before ordering. A familiar brand name does not guarantee that every variant has identical directions. If you cannot comfortably understand the leaflet supplied, ask the pharmacist to explain it before use rather than relying on a product name or a brief shopping description.
Ordinary haircare is a different category
An ordinary conditioning shampoo is not a specific head-lice product. The comb is a mechanical tool; the two selected shampoos are marketed as head-lice products without insecticides. That wording does not mean they suit everyone or can be used without restrictions. Being sold by a pharmacy does not automatically make every item a medicine.
The RIVM, the Netherlands’ public-health institute, advises checking the leaflet, including restrictions for young children, pregnancy and allergies. Seek pharmacist or medical advice in those circumstances or if the problem persists. Do not combine products on your own initiative or transfer application times and repeat-use instructions from a different variant.
Make a focused family purchase
The Prioderm comb and the Silikom and Elimax packs represent three purchase amounts, not a ranking of medical effectiveness. Choose according to the appropriate approach, intended user and complete contents. Compare current prices and availability on PharmaCompare immediately before ordering, and check the final basket total with the seller.
